4 Crafts to Create Using Sanrio Coloring Pages: A Guide for Kids

I’m James, father of two children Lisa and Mike, former private school teacher, and now part of the GreenColoring community to share my experience and expertise in creating fun and stimulating activities to develop children’s sensory and motor skills.

If your kids are like mine and love Hello Kitty, My Melody or any of the other fun Sanrio characters, we have some great crafts for them! Because coloring pages with Sanrio characters aren’t just for coloring; they can also be used to start fun and creative projects that will keep kids busy. This article will talk about four fun Sanrio coloring page crafts that will get kids’ imaginations going and make family time more fun.

Craft 1: Create Custom Greeting Cards Using Sanrio Coloring Pages

Materials Needed:

  • Printable Sanrio coloring pages
  • Cardstock or construction paper
  • Coloring tools (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
  • Child-safe scissors
  • Glue

Instructions:

One of my kids Lisa and Mike’s favorite activities is making greeting cards. Especially during the Christmas holidays. I’d love to share my experience making these cards with you today.

First, print out the Sanrio character coloring pages from above and color them. Cut out the colored characters carefully. Next, fold a cardboard or construction paper in half to make the greeting card base. Stick the colored character cutouts to the card front with glue on the back.

Now you can use these cards to congratulate friends and loved ones on various occasions.

Fun fact: You might have thought Hello Kitty was a cat. Oh no. Sanrio says Hello Kitty is a playful girl with a kind heart. For more information about Hello Kitty, you can go to the official Sanrio website.

Did you know: That making crafts promote fine motor skills and creativity in our children? Yes. According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), engaging in art supports learning in all areas of development.

Craft 2: Turn a Sanrio Coloring Page into a DIY Puzzle

Materials Needed:

  • Sanrio coloring page printed on heavy paper
  • Coloring tools
  • Child-safe scissors
  • A pencil for drawing the puzzle outlines

Instructions:

It’s time to create the puzzle; oh my god, I’m a big fan of it. Although I use the commercial version, I can help you step by step to create your own puzzle from your Sanrio coloring pages, because I did this with my son Mike and the result was great. Here are the steps:

First, I printed out a Kuromi coloring page for Mike (because it’s his favorite character). Then I let him enjoy coloring it however he wanted, using his favorite colors. After he finished coloring, we flipped the coloring page over and started drawing puzzle shapes using a pencil. Since it was Mike’s first puzzle, I only asked him to draw parallel lines vertically and horizontally, so he got simple puzzle pieces. But for you, you can create puzzle pieces however you want.

Next, I carefully cut the puzzle pieces while showing Mike how to do it safely and professionally. I cut, then my son cut until he finished. The end result was great.

Note: If necessary, help your child in the cutting process for his safety and accuracy.

Finally, I mixed all the pieces in a box and challenged Mike to put the picture back together again. This not only activates children’s motor skills but also enhances their ability to learn to solve problems and enhance cognitive abilities. Psychology Today highlights the importance of puzzles in early childhood development.

Craft 3: Room Decor Posters

Materials Needed:

  • Large printable Sanrio coloring pages
  • Coloring tools such as markers, colored pencils, crayons, or even watercolors
  • Poster frames or poster putty

Instructions:

Now it’s time to decorate, it’s my daughter Lisa’s favorite activity, especially by using cartoon characters that are close to her heart like My Melody, because of her cute facial features and the distinctive pink color of her head cover.

Some studies show that designing children’s own space boosts self-esteem and identity. Self-expression boosts confidence, says KidsHealth.

Okay, let’s get started now. The first step is to choose the appropriate Sanrio coloring pages. In my experience, boys tend more towards characters like Tuxedosam and Keroppi, unlike girls who tend towards cute characters like Hello Kitty and My Melody. The most important thing is the beauty of the drawings and the accuracy of the coloring because this will give a very distinctive decoration.

Pro tip:

  • It may be better to use thicker paper such as cardboard, to avoid wrinkling and wear when using different coloring tools.
  • For a special touch, you can use glitter pens, stickers, or metallic markers to make certain parts of your Sanrio coloring pages shine.

Okay, after you’re done coloring, the next step is to display your coloring page or artwork. I prefer to use lightweight poster frames, as they’re easy to hang and replace in the future if my kids want to. Alternatively, you can use poster paste, as it provides a flexible option to stick your coloring pages on the walls of your space.

DIY Sanrio Bookmarks Using Printable Sanrio Coloring Pages

Materials Needed:

  • Sanrio coloring pages
  • Coloring tools
  • Scissors (child-safe for young children)
  • Laminator or clear packing tape
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon or yarn

This time, we’ll talk about how to make bookmarks out of Sanrio coloring pages. Everyone who likes to be creative and read paper books, like me, has probably thought about making something unique to use as a bookmark. This is something I’ve done before, so I will show you a quick and easy way to do it too.

Did you know: Children who use custom or personalized bookmarks feel more eager and excited to return to their books. Because these bookmarks make reading not only more exciting and fun, but also more attractive to our children.

The first step in this activity is to choose the ideal Sanrio characters for you and also suitable for creating a bookmark. Search your Sanrio coloring pages for simple shapes that stimulate the imagination and color them and then cut them out. If your child is the one who will be cutting, make sure to keep them safe by giving them child-safe scissors while constantly monitoring and guiding them.

Pro tip:

  • You can resize large Sanrio characters before printing. It will be easier to make a personalized bookmark.
  • For durability, print your coloring sheets on thicker paper.

To ensure your bookmark will last through many reading adventures, I recommend laminating or covering it with clear packaging tape. This will give your bookmarks a more professional touch.

Tip: Add motivational quotes about reading to the back of your bookmark, to inspire your child every time they open their books.

Did you know: Encouraging reading with personalized bookmarks can boost your children’s literacy skills. Reading Rockets has information on how to get kids to read more.

As the final step in this activity, you’ll need to add a ribbon or string to your personalized bookmark. How? Here’s how: First, poke a small hole in the top of the bookmark. Second, thread a ribbon or string through the hole and tie it in a small knot. This way, you’ll be able to quickly find your personalized bookmark in your books.

Your personalized bookmark is now ready. It’s not only something practical that will help you, but something that will enhance your love and desire to come back to reading your books every day.

That ends this guide. I hope you had a great time in all the activities that I shared with you. And remember that the goal of these activities is not only fun but also to develop and enhance the sensory and intellectual skills of children.
