Discover the Fun of Hamster Coloring Pages
Hey there, coloring friends! It’s James again. I’m glad to have our free, printable hamster coloring pages here today. These adorable small hamsters are meant to make adults and children happy with their soft fur and energetic expressions. Their lively nature and appealing appearance have made them popular in our house; I know they will be a favorite in yours too!
When I was designing these hamster coloring pages, I wanted them to capture all the cuteness and energy of these little creatures. That’s why you’ll find hamsters in all sorts of fun scenarios:
- A hamster nibbling on a sunflower seed (Lisa’s favorite because she loves tiny details).
- One running on a wheel (Mike insisted on making his super fast!).
- Another peeking out of a cozy hamster house.
- And, of course, a playful hamster holding a balloon because why not?
With so many adorable designs, kids can let their creativity shine while bringing these pages to life with color.
Why it’s so much fun to color hamsters
Not only are these hamster coloring sheets cute. They help kids relax, learn, and express themselves artistically.
1. Encourages Creativity and Focus
Coloring teaches kids about patterns, textures, and shading. Last week, Lisa experimented with making a rainbow hamster, while Mike went for a classic golden-brown one. Each time, they get more confident in their choices, and it’s amazing to see their creativity grow!
2. Teaches About Hamsters
Did you know hamsters have cheek pouches to store food? Coloring these pages can be a great way to introduce kids to fun hamster facts like:
- Hamsters love to burrow and build cozy nests.
- They are nocturnal, meaning they’re most active at night.
It’s not just coloring. It’s a fun learning experience too!
3. Creates Special Family Moments
Some of my favorite evenings are spent coloring with Lisa and Mike. A few nights ago, we all sat down and imagined what pet hamsters we’d have. Lisa chose a tiny white hamster named “Marshmallow,” and Mike decided on a speedy brown one called “Flash.” Moments like these turn a simple activity into lasting memories.
So grab your hamster coloring pages and some crayons, and let’s make these little furry friends as colorful as possible!

8 Crafts for Kids Using Hamster Coloring Pages
Hamsters are some of the cutest little creatures, and kids absolutely love them! If your little one enjoys coloring, why not take it a step further and turn those hamster coloring pages into fun crafts? Child psychologists say that creative activities can help young kids develop their fine motor skills and imagination. Last week, my daughter Lisa and I got creative with some adorable hamster coloring pages (which, by the way, you can download for free in PDF format right above this article). Mike, my 6-year-old, had a blast too—although he did manage to glue his fingers together at one point! Here are eight fun hamster crafts that kids will love.
1. Hamster Puppets
Materials Needed:
- Colored hamster coloring pages (printed and colored)
- Popsicle sticks
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
- Googly eyes (optional)
Steps:
- Let your child color their hamster coloring page any way they prefer first. Promote imagination; maybe their hamster has rainbow fur!
- Once colored, carefully cut out the hamster shape. If your child is young, you may need to assist with the cutting.
- Attach the hamster cutout with popsicle sticks by glue or tape. Use strong craft glue and let it dry totally for added longevity.
- Add some fun details! Stick on googly eyes or draw a tiny nose and whiskers with markers.
- Encourage your child to create a hamster puppet show! They can make up stories, perform little plays, or even put on a show for family members.
Smart Tip: Do you want to improve your skills in this craft? Make a basic puppet theater with a cardboard box. Cut a rectangular window in the front, decorate it, and let your child’s imagination shine! You can make curtains with felt or tissue paper to create a realistic look on stage. 2. Hamster Greeting Cards
Materials Needed:
- Colored hamster coloring pages
- Blank cardstock or folded paper
- Glue
- Markers or stickers
Steps:
- Cut carefully out a hamster from the coloring page. Let children explore several poses and sizes.
- Glue it onto the front of the cardstock, making sure to smooth out any wrinkles.
- Decorate the card with stickers, glitter, or hand-drawn doodles. Encourage kids to make it personal!
- Create a lovely note within. Ask younger children what they would like to say and then write it for them if they need assistance.
- Let the glue dry completely before gifting it to a friend or family member!
Safety Tip: If you’re using glitter, keep an eye on younger kids to avoid messes (like the sneaky glitter explosion Mike caused last time!). You can use glitter glue to prevent spills and still have the sparkle. For more tips on crafting safely with kids, check out Scholastic Parents.
Fun Idea: Lisa made one for her grandma’s birthday last week, and she even added a tiny pink bow to her hamster for extra cuteness!
3. Hamster Bookmark
Materials Needed:
- Colored hamster coloring pages
- Laminating sheets or clear tape
- Hole punch
- Ribbon
Steps:
- Either cut out a long strip from the coloring page or just a hamster form.
- Before laminating the bookmark, name your child on it.
- To make it robust, laminate it with sheets or cover it with transparent tape.
- At the top, punch a hole and fasten a vibrant ribbon through it.
- If your child loves stickers, let them add some extra designs.
- Trim the edges neatly to give it a clean look.
- Let it dry if using glue or tape for extra decoration.
- Now you have an adorable and durable bookmark for your favorite bedtime stories!
Genius Hack: If you don’t have a laminator, place the bookmark between two pieces of clear packing tape and trim the edges—it works perfectly! For more creative bookmark ideas, visit Red Ted Art.
4. Hamster Mobile
Materials Needed:
- Several colored hamster coloring pages
- String or yarn
- A stick or embroidery hoop
- Hole punch
Steps:
- From the coloring pages, cut several hamsters.
- Puncture holes at every hamster’s top.
- Attach them to varyingly-length strings.
- Tie the strings to a stick or hoop.
- Space them out evenly so they dangle freely.
- Add extra decorations like stars or hearts between the hamsters.
- Let your child decide where to hang it—their room, playroom, or even by a window.
- Hang it up and watch the hamsters dance in the air!
It was so much fun to make this with Lisa. With great care, she painted each hamster a bright pink or purple color and put little glittery stars between them. Mike had a different idea. He wanted his hamsters to be green and blue, and he insisted on adding tiny lightning bolts to give them a “super-speed effect.” As we finally hung the hamsters, the mobile spun slowly in the air, making it look like the hamsters were jumping from string to string. What’s great is… After making their hamster mobile, Lisa and Mike were so happy that they ran around the house for an hour as if it were a magic spell.
Fun Tip: Let your child personalize their mobile with their favorite colors and themes. Adding glow-in-the-dark stickers makes it even more magical at night!
5. Hamster Puzzle Craft
Materials Needed:
- Colored hamster coloring pages
- Cardboard
- Scissors
Steps:
- Attach the coloring page to a sturdy cardboard cutout.
- Wait until it’s totally dry before you slice it.
- Stick a marker to the reverse and make shapes that resemble a puzzle.
- Create puzzle pieces by precisely cutting along lines.
- Sort the bits and challenge your child to match them back up.
- For simple storage, toss the puzzle in a small Ziploc bag.
- For an extra challenge, mix multiple hamster puzzles together!
- If your child loves it, make more with different designs and difficulty levels.
Lisa and Mike really liked this activity! Lisa painted her hamster in soft pastel colors to make it look especially pretty. Mike, on the other hand, used bright colors to make his hamster look like a superhero. It was so much fun to watch them put together their puzzles. Mike even challenged Lisa to see who could finish hers first. Lisa once jumbled their puzzle pieces, which made it even harder to solve. We laughed so hard when they saw that their hamsters now had body parts that didn’t go together. The best part is that they kept coming back to this game because they wanted to make more puzzles with different hamster designs.
Creative Twist: Should your child like the puzzle, print several coloring pages and design a series of hamster puzzles with different degrees of difficulty. For even more durability, you could laminate the parts!
6. Hamster Wall Art
Materials Needed:
- Colored hamster coloring pages
- Picture frames
- Scissors
- Glue (optional)
Steps:
- Trim the hamster coloring page for framing. Lisa loved choosing her favorite hamster designs and trimming them to fit. However, Mike got too excited with the scissors, but we had extra prints!
- Place it inside the frame and secure it. We found that taping the edges lightly before putting the back on helps keep it in place.
- If you want a unique look, layer different pieces using glue. Lisa decided to add a few cut-out hamster accessories—tiny hats and bows—to give our framed artwork some extra flair!
- Let your child choose where to hang it. Mike proudly picked a spot right next to his bed, saying he wanted his hamsters to watch over him while he slept.
- Use multiple hamster pictures to create a themed collage. We turned this into a family project and made an entire hamster wall with different expressions, colors, and sizes!
- Write the date on the back to remember when it was made. It’s such a great way to track your child’s creativity over time.
- Swap out the artwork seasonally for a fresh look! Lisa already has plans to create holiday-themed hamster prints for every season.
- Hang it up for adorable DIY hamster decor! This craft became one of our favorite projects, and it’s a wonderful way to turn a simple coloring page into something special.
Crafting with hamster coloring pages is a fantastic way to get creative with kids. It encourages imagination, develops fine motor skills, and best of all—it’s fun! You can download my free printable hamster coloring pages in PDF format above this article to get started. Happy crafting!
